This medication is used for the treatment of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women and men.

How to take

Adult dose

Take one tablet (70 mg/2800 IU or 70 mg/5600 IU) of this medication once a week in the morning with a sufficient amount of water at least 30 minutes before consuming food, beverages, or other medications. After taking it, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes and until the first food intake. If you forget a dose, take one tablet the next morning and then return to the originally scheduled dosing.

Child dose

Children and adolescents (under 18 years): Safety and efficacy have not been established.

Precautions

This medication may irritate the gastrointestinal mucosa, potentially leading to esophageal problems such as esophagitis or esophageal ulcers. It is essential to take it with a sufficient amount of water and avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. If symptoms of esophageal problems occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor. This medication is not to be administered to patients with esophageal strictures or those who cannot remain upright for at least 30 minutes. It is also contraindicated in patients with hypocalcemia or lactose intolerance. Calcium supplementation may be required during use, and especially for those at high risk of vitamin D deficiency, vitamin D supplementation is recommended. Calcium supplements and antacids should not be taken simultaneously with this medication but at different times. Caution is needed when used with aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, as the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions may increase. This medication is not recommended for children, pregnant women, or patients with severe renal failure. Rarely, prolonged use may result in atypical fractures of the bone, so if pain persists, consult a doctor. Ensure to take this medication with sufficient water before meals and avoid lying down immediately after taking it. In the case of overdose, gastrointestinal irritation or symptoms of hypocalcemia may occur, so inform medical personnel immediately. Store this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to another container.

Hives, angioedema (severe swelling), cold sweat, esophagitis, esophageal erosion, esophageal stricture, esophageal perforation, esophageal obstruction, severe esophageal adverse reactions, severe gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, symptoms of hypocalcemia, severe swelling, severe headache, confusion, seizures, visual disturbances, paralysis, tension fractures, hypocalcemia, elevated blood pressure, severe systemic swelling.
