Treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients aged 6 years and older
This medication is used for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children, adolescents, and adults aged 6 years and older. ADHD is a disorder characterized by persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, leading to difficulties in social and academic or work life. A proper diagnosis should follow the DSM-IV criteria or the ICD-10 guidelines, with symptoms appearing in two or more settings. Treatment should include not only pharmacotherapy but also psychological, educational, and social interventions; this medication is an essential part of the overall treatment program. Not all patients require pharmacotherapy, and the appropriate treatment method may be determined based on a physician's assessment. This medication effectively helps to improve ADHD symptoms.
The dose of this medicine should be individualized according to the patient's response and tolerability. This medicine should be administered with a meal or immediately after a meal. If a patient taking another formulation of methylphenidate hydrochloride is switched to this medicine, it must be administered immediately after a meal. Take this medicine, or its contents, intact with water. Do not chew or crush the contents of this medicine. ○ Adults Administer this medicine 2 times a day (morning and noon), immediately after meals. The initial dose is 5mg per dose, administered 2 times a day (morning and noon). Increase the daily dose by 10mg each week according to the patient's treatment response and tolerability. The maximum daily dose of this medicine is 1mg/kg and must not exceed 80mg a day. Adult patients who have been continuously taking this medicine since childhood or adolescence should continue taking the same dose they are currently taking. 2. Maintenance and long-term treatment The safety and efficacy of this medicine for long-term administration for more than 6 months have not been studied. When prescribing this medicine long term to patients with ADHD, periodically reassess its efficacy for long-term use by temporarily interrupting drug treatment and conducting a trial to evaluate the patient's social functioning. 3. Dose reduction and discontinuation If symptoms worsen or other adverse reactions occur, reduce the dose and, if necessary, discontinue this medicine. If symptoms do not improve within one month after adjustment to an appropriate dose, discontinue this medicine.
○ Children and adolescents aged 6 years and older: Administer this medicine once a day, immediately after breakfast. The initial dose is 5mg per dose, administered once a day (in the morning) or 2 times a day (morning and noon). Increase the daily dose by 5 ~ 10mg each week according to the patient's treatment response and tolerability. The maximum daily dose of this medicine is 60mg.
This medication should not be used in children, adolescents, and adults with serious heart problems. Particularly in patients with structural abnormalities or arrhythmias, there is a risk of sudden death, and caution is warranted. In patients with hypertension, blood pressure and pulse should be monitored regularly, and administration should be done with caution. Patients suspected of having heart disease should undergo heart examinations before administration, and if any cardiac-related symptoms arise during treatment, immediate evaluation is required. Patients with psychosis or bipolar disorder may experience worsening symptoms, so caution is necessary. New symptoms of psychosis or mania may develop, and discontinuation of the medication should be considered if these symptoms occur. Aggressiveness or hostility may arise, so behavioral changes should be observed during treatment. If thoughts or behaviors of suicide occur suddenly, medical personnel should be informed immediately, and discontinuation of the medication should be considered if necessary. Long-term use has been reported to suppress growth in children, so careful monitoring of changes in weight and height is necessary. Patients with a history of seizures have a risk of convulsions, so caution should be exercised during administration, and the medication should be discontinued if seizures occur. Visual disturbances may rarely occur, so attention to eye health is also necessary. This medication should not be used in children under 5 years old as safety and efficacy have not been established. Patients with a history of drug dependence or alcohol addiction should be cautious not to adjust the dosage arbitrarily. Persistent painful erections may occur, and if this happens, medical personnel should be informed immediately. Symptoms of peripheral vascular disease may rarely manifest, so changes in hands and feet should be monitored, and additional testing may be needed if necessary. Administration should not occur in patients with severe anxiety, agitation, or excitement, patients with certain ophthalmic conditions, or those taking specific medications. Blood pressure, pulse, weight, height, and mental state should be monitored regularly before and during administration. This medication should be taken with meals, and the capsules can be swallowed whole or sprinkled in applesauce for immediate consumption. Caution is warranted as dizziness may occur while driving or operating machinery. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, careful administration after consulting a physician is necessary, and breastfeeding individuals should consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the medication.
