This medication is helpful in alleviating symptoms of difficulty in sputum discharge in cases of acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthmatic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, bronchiolitis, and cystic fibrosis. It is also used in the treatment of pharyngitis, sinusitis, exudative and serous otitis media. In other words, it is effective in improving inflammation and mucus discharge in the respiratory tract and related regions.

How to take

Adult dose

Acute diseases: 200 mg once, three times a day Chronic diseases: 200 mg once, twice a day

Child dose

Acute diseases 6-14 years: 200 mg once, twice a day Chronic diseases 6-14 years: 100 mg once, three times a day Cystic fibrosis 6 years and older: 200 mg once, three times a day Cystic fibrosis 2-5 years: 100 mg once

Precautions

This drug should not be used in certain patients. For example, people who are allergic to this drug or have ulcers in the stomach and duodenum should not take it. Moreover, this drug contains lactose, so patients with genetic issues in digesting lactose should also refrain from taking it. This includes galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, and glucose-galactose malabsorption. In newborns, this medication should be administered cautiously unless in special cases. It is advisable to avoid it in newborns without severe conditions. When taking this drug, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomatitis, heartburn, and diarrhea may rarely occur. Additionally, allergic reactions like urticaria, itching, rashes, headaches, tinnitus, and bronchoconstriction may appear, particularly requiring caution in asthmatic patients. Very rarely, an increase in heart rate or elevated blood pressure may occur, and severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may develop. Some reports also indicate symptoms of respiratory distress. This drug may decrease the effectiveness of some oral antibiotics, so it is advisable to take them at least 2 hours apart. There is insufficient research regarding pregnant women, so it should only be used when necessary, and nursing women should be careful as it is uncertain whether this drug is excreted in breast milk. Lastly, it is recommended to avoid mixing this drug's solution with other medications.
