Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunct for epilepsy partial seizures, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to relieve peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adult patients. It is also effective as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy. Additionally, it helps improve symptoms of fibromyalgia. It is a medication used to manage significant central nervous system-related pain and seizures. This drug is used for neuropathic pain, seizures, and improving fibromyalgia symptoms.
This medication is used as Pregabalin and is administered orally divided into two doses per day without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain - Starting dose: 150 mg per day - Can increase to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days - Subsequently, can increase to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days if needed 2) Central Neuropathic Pain
Administration in children under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12 to 17 is not recommended due to insufficient safety and efficacy data.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so patients should carefully monitor for mood changes or unusual behaviors during treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients may need to adjust the dosage of blood glucose control medications due to weight gain, and if symptoms of angioedema occur, treatment should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should be careful due to the risk of falls or injuries from dizziness or drowsiness. Vision blurring or changes in vision may occur during treatment, so patients should consult healthcare professionals if these symptoms arise. Before administering this medication alone, care should be taken not to suddenly discontinue any previously prescribed anti-epileptic medications. When discontinuing the medication, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety may occur, and dosage should be gradually reduced as directed by a healthcare professional. Patients with a history of substance abuse may have a higher risk of abuse with this medication, so caution is advised during use. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments, and those with heart diseases should also use caution while taking it. Combining this medication with opioids may enhance central nervous system depressant effects, leading to risks such as respiratory depression, so care should be taken. In early pregnancy, it can pose risks to the fetus, so pregnant women are advised not to take it, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should discuss with healthcare professionals about stopping breastfeeding or the medication since this drug can pass into breast milk. Care should be taken after taking this drug when driving or operating hazardous machinery due to the risk of accidents from dizziness or drowsiness. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and seizures may appear, necessitating immediate medical attention, and blood dialysis may be required if necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers for safety.
