Adult dose

For central neuropathic pain, the starting dose is also 150 mg daily, and it can be increased to 300 mg daily after one week.
Child dose
For children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, safety and efficacy data are insufficient, thus administration is not recommended.

This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also administered as an adjunct for patients with epilepsy who have partial seizures, regardless of the presence of secondary systemic symptoms. Furthermore, it helps alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia. Therefore, this medication is used to improve pain and symptoms related to various neurological disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be administered orally divided into two doses daily, regardless of meals. For peripheral neuropathic pain, the starting dose is 150 mg daily, with a potential increase to 300 mg daily within 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at 7-day intervals. For central neuropathic pain, the starting dose is also 150 mg daily, and it can be increased to 300 mg daily after one week.

Child dose

For children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, safety and efficacy data are insufficient, thus administration is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so depressive symptoms, mood changes, and unusual behavior should be closely monitored during treatment. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients need to be cautious about blood sugar control due to weight gain, and should discontinue use immediately if symptoms of angioedema occur. Elderly patients should be careful of the risk of falls due to dizziness or drowsiness, and any occurrences of blurred vision or changes in eyesight should be discussed with a doctor. Suddenly stopping this medication can lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be tapered gradually according to a doctor’s instructions. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of substance abuse should be particularly cautious and report any signs of misuse immediately. Patients with heart disease or decreased kidney function should use this medication with caution, and dose adjustments may be necessary. Caution is advised when taking this medication with opioid analgesics due to the risk of central nervous system depression, and respiratory depression symptoms may occur, particularly in the elderly or those with kidney disease. During early pregnancy, there may be a risk of congenital malformations in the fetus, so pregnant women are advised not to take this medication, and fertile women should use effective contraceptive methods.
