This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults, as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy, and to help alleviate symptoms of fibromyalgia.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken orally divided into two doses a day without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain - Starting dose of 150 mg per day - Can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days - If necessary, may be increased up to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days 2) Central neuropathic pain - Starting dose of 150 mg per day -

Child dose

The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17, thus administration is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur while taking this medication, immediate medical assistance should be sought. Persons with an allergy to any components of this medication should not take it. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain after taking this medication, which may require adjustments to their blood sugar control medications. If symptoms of angioedema such as swelling of the face or mouth occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Elderly persons should be cautious when taking this medication as dizziness or drowsiness may increase, and they should be careful until they acclimate to these symptoms. This medication may cause blurred vision or changes in eyesight, so medical advice should be sought if symptoms occur. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety; therefore, dosage should be reduced gradually according to medical advice. Patients with a history of drug abuse may require close monitoring due to the potential for dependence on this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function may need dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should use this medication cautiously as there may be a risk of heart failure. Using this medication with other drugs that have central nervous system depressant effects may increase the risk of drowsiness or respiratory depression. During early pregnancy, this medication may affect the fetus; therefore, women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant must consult with their healthcare provider and use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should carefully decide whether to breastfeed or take this medication, as it can be passed into breast milk. Before driving or operating hazardous machinery, it should be confirmed whether this medication causes dizziness or drowsiness. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur, and treatment such as hemodialysis may be necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may compromise its quality, so caution is advised.
