Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, and it should be discontinued and a doctor consulted if kidney function deteriorates rapidly or in case of dehydration. This medication should not be used in patients with a kidney function below 45mL/min/1.73m2, and in cases of fluctuating kidney function, it should be temporarily stopped. There have been reports of an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality associated with this medication, so patients should be fully aware of the potential risks and benefits during treatment. This medication should not be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver dysfunction, pregnant or nursing women, and patients with severe kidney impairment. It should be used cautiously in patients before and after surgery, with severe infections, severe trauma, malnutrition, and liver and lung dysfunction. Patients at high risk of hypoglycemia, such as the elderly, malnourished individuals, those with irregular meal intake, alcohol consumers, and patients with decreased kidney function, should be especially monitored during the first week of treatment. Gastrointestinal symptoms (such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur while taking this medication; these symptoms are usually temporary but should be reported to a doctor if severe. In case of allergic reactions or hematological abnormalities, healthcare professionals should be notified immediately. This medication lowers blood sugar levels, and if symptoms of hypoglycemia (such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, etc.) occur, sugar should be ingested immediately, and if severe, consultation with a healthcare professional is advised. Regular checks of blood sugar, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels should be conducted to monitor for abnormalities, and special caution should be taken with the elderly or patients with reduced kidney function. This medication can interact with other drugs, so be sure to inform healthcare professionals if taking other medications. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should receive insulin therapy instead of this medication, and nursing women should also avoid taking it. Overdosage may lead to hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so dosage should be strictly adhered to, and any abnormal symptoms should be promptly reported to healthcare professionals. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia or dizziness causing accidents.
