How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1 to 2 times daily before meals or with meals. Typically, treatment is started at a low dose, and the dosage may be adjusted considering the patient's current medications and blood glucose levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dose was Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2mg/500mg, and based on blood glucose monitoring results, the dosage was gradually increased up to Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 8mg/2000mg.

Precautions

This medication may cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, it may be dangerous for patients with significantly impaired kidney function. If kidney function diminishes, the components of this medication can accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of lactic acidosis, so kidney function should be regularly checked to ensure it is normal. If dehydration symptoms or severe diarrhea, vomiting, fever, etc. occur, it is recommended to temporarily stop taking this medication and consult a doctor. Patients at risk of cardiovascular diseases need to be cautious when taking this medication and should thoroughly discuss treatment options with their physician. If there are specific illnesses or if pregnant, or if liver or kidney function is severely impaired, this medication should not be taken. Patients at high risk for hypoglycemia, malnourished patients, elderly persons, etc. need more careful observation and management when taking this medication. Initial use may cause gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.), but these are mostly temporary, and taking the medication with meals can help alleviate symptoms. If any allergic reactions or severe side effects occur, inform the doctor immediately, and if hypoglycemia symptoms develop, quickly consume sugar to control it. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, inform healthcare professionals about any other medications being taken. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, it is advisable to avoid this medication and consider switching to insulin therapy if necessary. Caution is necessary with children and the elderly; particularly, elderly patients commonly have reduced kidney function, making regular kidney function assessments essential. In case of overdose, severe hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate medical attention. While taking this medication, regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney function, and hematological tests is recommended, and it is also good to monitor for vitamin B12 deficiency. Be cautious while driving or operating machinery as hypoglycemia or agility impairment can occur.
