Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is necessary. Especially if kidney function decreases rapidly, the medication can accumulate in the body, raising the risk of lactic acidosis. If dehydration symptoms are present, it is advisable to temporarily halt the use of this medication and consult a physician. Extra caution is needed when taken with other medications that may worsen kidney function. Excessive alcohol intake, liver dysfunction, and poorly controlled diabetes can also increase the risk of lactic acidosis. This medication is not to be given to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is also recommended that pregnant or breastfeeding women avoid using this medication. In elderly patients or those with diminished kidney function, dosage adjustment and regular monitoring of kidney function are necessary. Patients who are starting the medication or who are at a higher risk for hypoglycemia should be closely monitored for hypoglycemic symptoms. Hypoglycemic symptoms may include headaches, fatigue, trembling, and confusion, which in severe cases can lead to loss of consciousness. Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhea, etc.) may occur but usually resolve over time. It is important to regularly monitor blood sugar levels, kidney function, and vitamin B12 levels during the use of this medication. There may be interactions with other medications, so it is essential to inform your physician or pharmacist of any ongoing medications. Caution is particularly warranted when used with medications that may affect kidney function or enhance or reduce blood sugar-lowering effects. When driving or operating machinery, be careful of the risks of hypoglycemia or impaired agility. In case of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, necessitating immediate consultation with healthcare professionals for appropriate treatment. This medication should be avoided in children and pregnant women, as its safety has not been established. During the use of this medication, regular meals, exercise, and blood sugar management are necessary, and immediate consultation with a physician is advised if symptoms or adverse reactions occur.
