How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1-2 times a day, just before meals or with meals. The dosage can be adjusted based on each patient's current therapeutic regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, requiring proper blood sugar monitoring. Typically, treatment begins with a low dose, with adjustments made based on blood sugar levels and currently prescribed medications. The initial dose is Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2mg/500mg, which can be gradually increased up to a maximum of 8mg/2000mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is advised, especially when renal function declines rapidly. In cases of dehydration or the use of medications that can affect kidney function, administration of this medication should be temporarily discontinued and a consultation with a doctor is recommended. Patients with cardiovascular disease or elderly patients may have an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality and should use this medication more cautiously. This medication is not to be administered to patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those with specific genetic disorders. During the initial dosing period, there is a higher risk of hypoglycemia, so careful monitoring is required for patients who have poor nutritional status, irregular eating habits, excessive alcohol consumption, or impaired kidney function. This medication may cause gastrointestinal symptoms (such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting), but these are mostly temporary, and if symptoms are severe, dose adjustment or temporary discontinuation may be necessary. In the event of an allergic reaction, immediate notification to a physician is required, and periodic checks for hematological abnormalities or the possibility of vitamin B12 deficiency should be performed. Blood sugar control status and kidney function should be monitored regularly, and due to potential interactions with other medications, consultations with a physician or pharmacist regarding other medications being taken are necessary. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant are advised to consider insulin therapy instead of this medication, and it should also be avoided during breastfeeding. In case of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, requiring immediate medical attention and appropriate treatment. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery due to the potential decrease in agility related to hypoglycemia. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
