How to take

Adult dose

This medication is usually administered 1 to 2 times daily just before or with meals. Dosage can be adjusted based on the current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability of each patient, with appropriate blood sugar monitoring being conducted. Treatment typically begins at a low dose, and adjustments may be made based on the patient's current medications and blood sugar levels. The initial dosage is Glymeperide/Metformin Hydrochloride 2 mg/500 mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so it should be temporarily stopped and discussed with a physician if there is a sudden decline in kidney function or symptoms of dehydration. Caution is also needed when using it with other medications that can cause acute kidney injury, and excessive alcohol consumption, liver dysfunction, poorly managed diabetes, and prolonged fasting may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. This medication should not be used in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, patients with acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and certain genetically lactose intolerant individuals. In the initial phase of treatment, the risk of hypoglycemia is high, so older adults, malnourished individuals, those with irregular eating habits, those who engage in intense exercise, alcohol users, and patients with liver dysfunction should be observed very carefully. During treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur, which are usually temporary; however, in severe cases, consulting a doctor for dehydration prevention is necessary. Additionally, allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, and vitamin B12 deficiency may occur, so regular blood tests and monitoring of vitamin B12 levels are required. Caution should be taken regarding drug interactions, especially when used with medications affecting kidney function or altering blood sugar-lowering effects; blood sugar and kidney function should be checked frequently. If pregnant or planning to become pregnant, it is recommended to switch to insulin therapy instead of this medication, and it is safe not to use it while breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been fully established, so special attention is required, and elderly patients require appropriate dosage adjustments and regular kidney function tests due to decreased kidney function. In the case of overdose, hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may occur, requiring prompt medical attention for appropriate treatment. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery while taking this medication, and it should be stored out of reach of children.
