View approved original text

This medication is primarily used for essential hypertension and heart failure. It is particularly suitable for heart failure patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors. Additionally, it helps reduce the risk of mortality in patients with left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction. This medication is effective in controlling blood pressure and improving heart function, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is used to treat symptoms and prevent complications at appropriate dosages depending on the patient's condition.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Those with allergies to this medication or its ingredients, pregnant women or those likely to become pregnant, breastfeeding women, individuals with severe liver or kidney disease, and those with a history of specific angioedema should not take this medication. Elderly patients, those with hyperkalemia, liver impairment, heart valve disease, cardiovascular disease, or those who are sodium- or fluid-depleted should use this medication cautiously, especially since blood pressure may drop suddenly at the start of treatment. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, fatigue, cough, or diarrhea, while rare but serious adverse reactions could involve angioedema, hepatitis, renal failure, hypoglycemia, or rhabdomyolysis, thus it's crucial to consult a healthcare provider if any abnormal symptoms occur. As this medication lowers blood pressure, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. Additionally, taking potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may lead to dangerously elevated potassium levels, thus frequent blood tests to monitor potassium levels are recommended when used in combination. This medication may interact with other antihypertensives or certain NSAIDs, leading to decreased effectiveness or affecting kidney function, so other medications currently being taken should be disclosed to a healthcare provider. In cases of overdose, severe hypotension, decreased consciousness, or shock may occur; immediate emergency care is required, which may include vomiting induction or saline infusion. This medication is not recommended for use in children and adolescents as safety and efficacy have not been sufficiently established.
