How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be administered 1 to 2 times a day before meals or with meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on each patient’s current therapy, efficacy, and tolerability, and appropriate blood glucose monitoring should be conducted for this purpose. Treatment usually starts at a low dosage, adjusting the dose based on the patient’s current medications and blood glucose levels. The initial dose is Glimipiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2mg/500mg.

Precautions

This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, and while lactic acidosis is rare, it can be fatal, so caution is advised. If renal function deteriorates rapidly, this medication may accumulate in the body and increase the risk of lactic acidosis; therefore, it should be temporarily discontinued and a doctor consulted if renal function is impaired or dehydration occurs. It is important to periodically check cardiovascular health during treatment, as patients with a history of cardiovascular disease may be at increased risk of cardiovascular death. This medication should not be administered to certain patient populations, such as patients with insulin-dependent diabetes, severe liver or renal dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with severe infections. Patients at high risk for hypoglycemia should be carefully monitored for symptoms from the start of treatment, and dosage adjustments may be needed if necessary. Gastrointestinal side effects (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur during this medication, but most are transient. If any allergic reactions or blood abnormalities occur, the doctor should be notified immediately, and treatment should be stopped in severe cases. This medication should be taken consistently alongside dietary and exercise therapies for blood sugar control, and regular tests for blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests should be carried out. This medication can interact with other drugs, so it is essential to inform healthcare providers if taking other medications, especially those that may affect renal function. It is advised that women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant switch to insulin therapy instead of using this medication. Elderly patients may commonly experience impaired renal function and should have their renal function monitored more frequently when using this medication; limiting the maximum dose is recommended. Overdose can lead to hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so the dosage should be adhered to strictly, and immediate medical attention should be sought if any abnormal symptoms occur. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery due to risks of accidents from hypoglycemia and it should be stored out of reach of children.
