Improvement of blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used in combination with dietary management and exercise to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes using Glymepiride and Metformin.
This medication is taken 1-2 times a day before or with meals. The dosage may be adjusted based on each patient's current therapy, effectiveness, and tolerability, with appropriate blood sugar monitoring in place. Typically, therapy is initiated with a low dose, and adjustments can be made considering the other medications a patient is currently taking and their blood sugar levels. The initial daily dose in clinical trials was Glymepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2 mg/5
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so caution is required. Especially if renal function is significantly reduced, the drug may accumulate in the body, increasing the risk of lactic acidosis. If dehydration symptoms are present or if you are taking medications that may affect kidney function, temporarily discontinue use and consult a physician. Patients with cardiovascular disease should be cautious when taking this medication due to an increased risk of cardiovascular mortality. Insulin-dependent diabetes patients or those with acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, and pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication should be discontinued before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, and it should be re-administered after reevaluating kidney function. Elderly patients, those in poor nutritional status, those with irregular meals, vigorous exercise, or alcohol consumption should be especially careful during use, and if hypoglycemic symptoms occur, immediate action should be taken. Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may commonly occur during initial treatment but are usually temporary, and taking the medication with food may reduce symptoms. Regular testing is necessary as allergic reactions or hematological abnormalities may occur, along with symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency. This medication may interact with other drugs, so you must inform your healthcare provider of any medications you are currently taking. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid this medication and may need to switch to insulin therapy as necessary. Dosing adjustments and caution are required for children and the elderly based on kidney function and health status. In cases of overdose, serious side effects such as hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis can occur, requiring immediate medical attention. Regular blood sugar, kidney function, and blood tests should be performed while taking this medication, and if unusual symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a physician is recommended. Caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery as hypoglycemia or impaired agility may occur. Keep out of reach of children, and avoid transferring to another container.
