Adult dose

This drug is administered 1 to 2 times daily, just before or with meals. Dosage may be adjusted considering each patient’s current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerance, for which appropriate blood glucose monitoring should be performed. Typically, treatment is initiated at a low dose, and the dosage may be adjusted based on the patient’s current medications and blood glucose levels. Precautions

This drug can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, if renal function declines sharply or dehydration symptoms occur, treatment should be temporarily suspended and a doctor consulted. It should not be administered to patients with impaired renal function, and special caution is needed for the elderly or those taking medications that can affect renal function. Patients with cardiovascular disease need to consider the increased risk of cardiovascular mortality when administering this drug. Insulin-dependent diabetes patients, those with acute metabolic acidosis, severe liver dysfunction patients, pregnant or nursing women, and those with severe renal impairment should not use this drug. Patients at a high risk of hypoglycemia should be observed particularly carefully at the beginning of treatment, and irregular meal intake, excessive alcohol consumption, and severe exercise may cause hypoglycemia. This drug can cause gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.), but they are mostly temporary and can be reduced by taking the medication with meals. If allergic reactions occur, they should be reported to a doctor immediately, and administration should be discontinued in severe cases. Long-term use may result in vitamin B12 deficiency, so regular blood tests for monitoring are necessary. This drug can interact with other medications, so if other medications are being taken, the healthcare provider must be informed. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this drug, and it should also be avoided during breastfeeding. Extra care is needed for children and the elderly, especially for the elderly, who should undergo regular renal function tests. Overdose may lead to hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis, so if symptoms appear, seek medical attention immediately. During the administration of this drug, regular meals, exercise, and consistent blood sugar and renal function tests should be maintained to achieve optimal blood sugar control. Care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to the risk of hypoglycemia or dizziness.
