View approved original text

This medication is primarily used to treat essential hypertension. It is also prescribed for heart failure patients classified as NYHA class II to IV who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors. After myocardial infarction, it helps reduce the mortality risk in clinically stable patients with left ventricular dysfunction or systolic dysfunction. This drug effectively controls blood pressure and improves cardiac function, thereby enhancing patient health. Thus, it is widely used in the management of hypertension, heart failure, and treatment after myocardial infarction.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This drug should not be administered to pregnant or potentially pregnant women, or to nursing mothers. It is also not safe for use in patients with severe liver dysfunction or severe renal disease. Before taking this medication, one must inform about any history of allergic reactions or angioedema, and if such history exists, it should be avoided. In elderly patients or those with high serum potassium levels, or in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment, more careful monitoring is required when administering this medication. Patients with heart disease or renal artery problems must have their blood pressure and kidney function regularly monitored while using this medication. Upon initial use, blood pressure may drop rapidly causing dizziness or fainting; therefore, start with a low dose and monitor closely. Patients undergoing dialysis or requiring a strict low-salt diet, as well as those taking diuretics, also need to be cautious while taking this medication. This drug can elevate potassium levels if taken with other antihypertensives, certain diuretics, or potassium-sparing agents, so follow a doctor's instructions. Caution is needed as dizziness or drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery. If this medication is taken by pregnant women, there are risks of decreased fetal kidney function, cranial development deficiency, and growth retardation, so those planning to get pregnant should consult a doctor. Nursing mothers should avoid this medication, and if unavoidable, should discontinue breastfeeding. Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric and adolescent populations under 18 years, so use is not recommended. Overdose may result in severe hypotension, impaired consciousness, and shock, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
