This medication is used to control essential hypertension. It also helps relieve symptoms in heart failure patients who cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors. It is effective in reducing the risk of death in stable patients with reduced left ventricular function following myocardial infarction. In other words, this medication is used for hypertension, certain types of heart failure, and to reduce the risk of complications after myocardial infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

Essential Hypertension: Valsartan 80 mg orally once daily is recommended. If blood pressure control is difficult, it can be increased up to 160 mg daily, with a maximum of 320 mg. Elderly patients (75 years or older) start at 40 mg orally once daily. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus during pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Elderly patients or those with high potassium levels, patients with impaired liver function, and those with heart or vascular problems need to consult their doctor before taking this medication. During treatment, blood pressure may drop suddenly, so immediate medical attention is required if symptoms such as dizziness or fainting appear. Patients with heart failure or post-myocardial infarction may experience changes in kidney function, so regular check-ups are necessary. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery as this medication has blood pressure-lowering effects, and interactions may occur when combined with other medications. Taking potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements can dangerously elevate blood potassium levels, so caution is needed. This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding women, and if it is absolutely necessary to take it, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Safety and efficacy have not been established for children or adolescents under 18 years of age, so it should be avoided for these age groups. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, decreased consciousness, etc., may occur, requiring immediate emergency treatment.
