Treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure (intolerance to ACE inhibitors), reducing the risk of death after myocardial infarction.
This medication is primarily used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It is also helpful for heart failure patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors, particularly those classified as NYHA class II to IV. After a myocardial infarction, it is effective in reducing mortality risk in patients with impaired left ventricular function. This medication contributes to improving cardiovascular health and enhancing the quality of life for patients. Therefore, it is used for the management of essential hypertension, heart failure, and post-myocardial infarction.
1. Essential Hypertension - Adults: A dose of 80 mg orally once daily is recommended as valsartan. - In cases of inadequate blood pressure control, the dose may be increased to 160 mg daily or combined with a diuretic. - The maximum dose can be increased to 320 mg daily. 2. Heart Failure - Adults: A dose of 40 mg orally twice daily is recommended, which may be increased to 80 mg or 160 mg per dose. - The maximum daily dose is 320 mg.
Pediatric: The safety and efficacy in pediatric patients under 18 years of age have not been established.
This medication may cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Women who are pregnant, possibly pregnant, or breastfeeding should not take this medication. It is also not safe for patients with severe liver impairment or cirrhosis. Patients with severely impaired kidney function or certain hereditary angioedema should not take this medication. Caution is advised for elderly patients, patients with high serum potassium levels, and patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. Special care is required for patients with heart disease or renal artery stenosis when administering this medication. This medication can cause a rapid drop in blood pressure when first administered, especially in patients who are deficient in fluids or sodium, so it should be started at a low dose and gradually increased. If blood pressure drops too low, the patient should be laid down and, if necessary, normal saline should be administered to stabilize blood pressure. Side effects such as headache, dizziness, fatigue, and cough may occur during treatment, and in severe cases, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Particularly, regular checks on kidney function or serum potassium levels should be conducted, and appropriate action should be taken if abnormalities are detected. Caution should be exercised for drug interactions when taken with other antihypertensive drugs, diuretics, or potassium-sparing agents, and it should be taken according to the physician's instructions. The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children and adolescents, so it is advisable not to use it in patients under 18 years of age. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension and decreased consciousness may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur.
Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, peeling skin, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis, urination.

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent air and moisture from entering and kept in a cool place below 30 degrees Celsius.
