Efficacy & effects
Contrast agent for the diagnosis of liver cancer and metastatic diseases.
View approved original textHide original text
This medication helps to observe the liver more accurately during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) diagnosis. It is particularly used to diagnose liver lesions when primary liver cancer such as hepatocellular carcinoma or cancer metastatic to the liver from other sites is suspected. This helps to clarify the location and condition of liver diseases, facilitating the establishment of appropriate treatment plans. Liver contrast agents play an essential role in enhancing the accuracy of diagnoses and are crucial for patient healthcare.
How it is given
Adult administration
This drug is administered as a bolus intravenous injection or slowly (10 mL/min) as an infusion. For liver diagnosis, use a dosage of 0.1 mL/kg (0.05 mmol/kg).
Precautions
This drug may pose a risk of serious side effects, such as nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, when administered to patients with severe kidney dysfunction, thus kidney function must be confirmed. This drug is not approved for intrathecal administration, and serious side effects may occur with such use, therefore it must not be used. When administered multiple times, gadolinium may accumulate in the brain, so careful consideration is necessary when administration is required. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this drug's ingredients or gadolinium allergy, pregnant women, and patients with severely impaired renal function should not be administered this drug. Particular caution should be exercised with patients under 18 years of age or those with cardiovascular diseases, and careful usage is advised in cases of allergy history or specific heart conditions. After administration, monitoring for adverse reactions is required for at least 15 minutes under a doctor's observation, and it must only be used at medical facilities prepared for emergencies. The effects of this drug on driving or machine operation are unknown; caution is advised during use. Pregnant women should avoid use of this drug, and if breastfeeding, temporary cessation of breastfeeding around the time of administration is recommended. Elderly patients have an increased possibility of decreased kidney function and should be cautious regarding dose adjustments and intervals. No specific symptoms have been reported with overdose, but the prescribed dosage should not be exceeded, and patients should be closely monitored in case of overdose. This drug should be used immediately after opening and must not be diluted or mixed with other drugs. To prevent extravasation from intravenous injection, it should be administered accurately, and saline should be used for flushing after administration.
