Improvement of essential hypertension
This medication is a treatment that helps lower and maintain blood pressure within the normal range for essential hypertension. By doing so, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and contributes to the prevention of complications. This drug is used to effectively control blood pressure to maintain a healthy life for patients.
The recommended initial dose is 10mg once daily, administered regardless of meals. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled at this dose, it can be increased to 20mg once daily. If necessary, it can be increased up to a maximum of 40mg once daily. In patients where there is a possibility of reduced effective circulating blood volume, it is recommended to start treatment at a lower dose. For elderly patients (65 years and older), dose adjustment is not necessary. Patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment should have their maximum dosage adjusted to 20mg once daily.
The safety and efficacy in children have not been established.
This drug can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if administered to pregnant women in the second and third trimesters, and in severe cases may lead to death. It is necessary to discontinue this medication immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. This drug should not be used by patients who are allergic to its components, pregnant or breastfeeding women, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver dysfunction, or patients with biliary obstruction. Also, patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance should not take this drug. Caution is required for patients with decreased blood volume or salt deficiency, as they may experience hypotension; in such cases, treatment should be started with careful observation of the condition. Patients with kidney function issues must regularly check serum potassium and creatinine levels, and it is not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment. Special caution is needed when administering this drug to patients with aortic stenosis, mitral valve stenosis, and obstructive heart disease. Due to its blood pressure-lowering effects, this drug may cause dizziness; therefore, caution should be exercised when performing high-altitude work or driving. It is advisable not to use potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements during the treatment with this drug, as the antihypertensive effect may be increased when used with other antihypertensive medications. When used together with lithium preparations, serum lithium levels may increase, leading to side effects, so it is safest to avoid combination therapy. Caution is also required as co-administration with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may worsen kidney function. If pregnant women take this drug, serious issues such as decreased kidney function, hypotension, anuria, and cranial skeletal development issues may occur, so it should be avoided during pregnancy. Nursing mothers should consider stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing this medication as it may be transmitted through breast milk. The safety and efficacy in children have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in children. Overdose may cause hypotension and palpitations; if symptoms are severe, immediate medical attention should be sought. Although this drug is known to not increase cancer risk with long-term use, any abnormal symptoms during use should prompt consultation with a specialist.
