Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed dyslipidemia
This medication helps lower elevated total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, particularly heterozygous familial and non-familial hypercholesterolemia, reduce ApoB protein and triglycerides, and increase HDL cholesterol, which is considered 'good' cholesterol. It can also be used alone or in conjunction with other treatments for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This drug is used alongside non-drug measures such as dietary therapy, and appropriate treatment should be pursued after checking for other secondary causes. Patients with acute coronary events should have their cholesterol levels checked upon hospitalization, and treatment started if necessary. Overall, this medication plays a vital role in reducing risk factors associated with hypercholesterolemia and preventing cardiovascular diseases, thus being effectively used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia.
This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. The dosage range for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg daily, with the generally recommended starting dose being 10/20 mg daily. For patients who require less reduction in LDL cholesterol, one may start at 10/10 mg daily. For patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the recommended dose is 10/40 mg daily administered in the evening.
This medication is primarily used to lower blood cholesterol levels. Caution should be exercised as muscle problems may arise while taking this medication. If muscle pain or weakness occurs, notify a doctor immediately. Patients with liver function problems or persistent unexplained increases in liver enzyme levels should not take this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this medication, and women of childbearing potential must confirm their pregnancy status before taking it. The risk of muscle problems or side effects may increase when this medication is taken with certain other drugs, so be sure to inform your doctor or pharmacist of any other medications you are taking. Elderly patients or those with decreased kidney function need to exercise greater caution when using this medication. Rarely, various side effects such as skin rashes, liver function abnormalities, gastrointestinal symptoms, headaches, dizziness, etc. may occur, and if symptoms persist or worsen, consult medical personnel. It is advisable to regularly monitor liver function and muscle status through blood tests while taking this medication. Additionally, this medication may not be suitable for patients with certain genetic disorders, thus the individual's health status should be thoroughly considered when using it.
