Prevention of asthma and relief of allergic rhinitis symptoms
This medication helps prevent and treat asthma symptoms continuously. It is also used to relieve the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
This medication should be taken once daily; for asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening, and for allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time should be determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet of 5 mg in the evening once daily. Montelukast for asthma or allergic rhinitis 5 mg orodispersible tablet This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.
Children aged 6 to 14 years: Place 5 mg of montelukast on the tongue once daily; allow it to dissolve and swallow without water. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder that restricts phenylalanine intake, should avoid taking it. The daily intake of aspartame included in this medication should be controlled to be below the WHO recommended levels, with adults advised to not exceed a maximum of 2.4 grams per day. Patients with allergies to this medication or any of its components should not use it, and those with lactose intolerance or specific genetic lactose metabolism disorders should also avoid it. This medication is not used for acute asthma attacks, so appropriate emergency treatment should be used when acute symptoms occur. While taking this medication, the dosage of inhaled corticosteroids may be gradually reduced, but sudden changes can be risky, so follow the doctor's instructions. During the use of this medication, neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts, may appear, so if such changes occur, consult a doctor immediately. This medication should not be used alone for exercise-induced bronchospasm; inhaled β-agonists should continue to be used as necessary. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication. Rarely, serious side effects such as vasculitis or eosinophilia may occur after taking this medication, so if any rashes, worsening respiratory symptoms, or heart problems arise, see a doctor immediately. No significant drug interactions have been reported when this medication is used in combination with other asthma treatments, but monitoring by a doctor may be needed when used with certain medications. There is insufficient safety data regarding use during pregnancy; therefore, pregnant women should only take it after consulting a doctor if necessary. Caution is also needed for breastfeeding mothers, as this medication may be excreted into breast milk. The safety and efficacy of this medication in pediatric patients have been evaluated differently by age group, and its safety has not been established for children under 6 months. For elderly patients, no special dosage adjustments are needed; however, caution is warranted as drug responses may vary. There are no specific detoxification methods for overdose; general symptomatic treatment should be implemented, and immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms are severe.
