This medication is used in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when diet and exercise alone are insufficient for control. It is effective as an adjunctive therapy alongside other lipid-lowering therapies, particularly in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, including those with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Additionally, it helps to lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, thereby delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. It may also be used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who meet certain criteria. It is beneficial for patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and contributes to the reduction of risk for stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in middle-aged patients with a high risk of cardiovascular disease. Thus, it is effectively used in the management of various types of dyslipidemias and cardiovascular disease risk.
