Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus infection
This medication is used for patients infected with chronic hepatitis B virus who have confirmed active virus replication, with elevated aminotransferases (ALT or AST) on liver function tests, or have confirmed active liver disease on liver biopsy. It is effective for both HBeAg positive and negative patients and helps treat patients with lamivudine-resistant hepatitis B. This medication inhibits viral replication and improves liver function to reduce liver damage. Therefore, it contributes to maintaining healthy liver function in patients with chronic hepatitis B.
Adults: The recommended dose of adefovir dipivoxil is 10 mg orally once daily, with or without food. Creatinine clearance 50 mL/min or higher: Administer 10 mg once daily Creatinine clearance 20-49 mL/min: Administer 10 mg every 2 days Creatinine clearance 10-19 mL/min: Administer 10 mg every 3 days Patients receiving hemodialysis: Administer 10 mg every 7 days (after hemodialysis)
This medication must be taken strictly according to the recommended dosage; exceeding the dosage may lead to serious side effects. After discontinuing treatment, there is a risk of worsening hepatitis, so liver function should be regularly monitored for a period even after stopping the medication. Particularly, patients with already weakened liver function or those with cirrhosis need to be observed more carefully during and after treatment. This medication may place a burden on the kidneys, so patients with impaired kidney function or those taking other medications that affect the kidneys must undergo kidney function tests. For end-stage renal disease patients receiving hemodialysis, the safety of this medication has not been sufficiently confirmed, so it should be used with caution. Before starting this medication, it is essential to check for HIV infection, and patients infected with HIV should receive appropriate antiviral treatment before starting treatment with this medication alone. This medication may cause rare side effects such as severe hepatomegaly accompanied by lactic acidosis and steatosis, so patients at risk for liver disease should be particularly cautious. There is a risk of transmitting hepatitis B to others during the course of treatment, so proper preventive measures should be maintained. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should consult with a doctor before taking this medication and should use effective contraception if necessary. During breastfeeding, this medication may pass into breast milk, so it is advisable to avoid breastfeeding. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents have not yet been fully established, so caution is advised. The elderly may have diminished kidney function, so special care is needed when taking this medication. In case of overdose, immediately inform healthcare professionals and receive appropriate treatment such as hemodialysis if necessary. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it should not be transferred into other containers.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication can be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius at room temperature. Storing it this way will help safely maintain its effectiveness.
