This medication is used as an adjunct when dietary and exercise measures alone are insufficient to control primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia patients. Additionally, it serves as an adjunct to diet and other lipid-lowering therapies in patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia to target levels, thereby delaying the progression of atherosclerosis. It can also be prescribed as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia if they exceed certain criteria. It aids dietary management in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia as well. Furthermore, the medication is used to reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization procedures in men over 50 and women over 60 who are at high risk. Overall, this medication is effective in improving blood lipid levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
