Treatment of hypercholesterolemia and reduction of cardiovascular disease risk
This medication is primarily used for various types of lipid disorders associated with hypercholesterolemia. It serves as an adjunct therapy for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia who find it difficult to control their condition through diet and exercise. Additionally, it is effective as a dietary adjunct for special lipid disorders such as homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia or dysbetalipoproteinemia. This medication lowers total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels in patients with hypercholesterolemia, delaying the progression of atherosclerosis, and is also used for pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia. Furthermore, it helps reduce the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in men over 50 and women over 60 who have cardiovascular disease risk factors. Thus, this medication is effectively used for various types of dyslipidemia and the reduction of cardiovascular disease risk.
