This medication helps prevent the occurrence of asthma and treats it continuously. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

Take 1 tablet once daily; asthma patients should take it in the evening. Allergic rhinitis patients should determine the timing of dosing according to their symptoms. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet once daily in the evening. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 2 to 5 years should chew and take 4 mg of montelukast once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This drug has been reported to cause serious neuropsychiatric adverse events, so if you experience anxiety, aggressive behavior, restlessness, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts while taking it, you should consult a physician immediately. This medication contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should not take this drug. It contains lactose; therefore, patients with galactose intolerance or lactase deficiency should not use this drug. Various adverse reactions such as weakness, fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, nasal congestion, cough, and rash may occur during use, and if symptoms are severe, inform your doctor. This is not a medication to be used in acute asthma attacks; in emergencies, separate emergency medications should be prepared and used. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while on this medication. Eosinophilia and vasculitis symptoms may occur, so if respiratory symptoms worsen or if skin rashes develop, visit a hospital immediately. No specific interactions have been reported when used in conjunction with other asthma medications, but when used with certain drugs, you should follow your doctor's instructions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this medication should only be used when absolutely necessary and under the guidance of a professional. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in children, especially in children under 6 months old, as safety has not been established. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but appropriate treatment should be administered according to symptoms. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be opened just before use, and should be taken immediately after mixing. Keep out of reach of children, and do not transfer to another container for safety.
