This medication helps prevent asthma attacks and manage the condition continuously. It also effectively alleviates the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is used by patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily; for asthma patients, it is taken in the evening, while for allergic rhinitis patients, the dosage time is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once a day.

Precautions

This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, and should not be used by patients with phenylketonuria who need to restrict phenylalanine intake. The aspartame in this medication is controlled at levels below WHO recommended amounts, but caution is needed to avoid exceeding allowable amounts based on body weight. Patients with a history of allergic reactions to this medication or its components, lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, and a rescue bronchodilator should always be carried. Inhaled corticosteroids should not be abruptly discontinued or replaced with this medication; dosages should be adjusted gradually under a physician's guidance. During the use of this medication, neuropsychiatric symptoms, such as agitation, anxiety, depression, and hallucinations, may occur; if these symptoms develop, consult a physician immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take these medications concurrently with this medication. In rare cases, patients with asthma using this medication may experience severe symptoms, such as eosinophilia and vasculitis, and should seek medical attention if experiencing eosinophilia, skin rashes, or worsening respiratory symptoms. No special drug interactions have been reported when used with other asthma treatments, but caution is warranted when used in conjunction with certain enzyme inducers. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult a physician before taking this medication and should only be administered if necessary. This medication can be used in children and the elderly, but dosing should follow a physician's guidance regarding safety and efficacy for different age groups. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and general symptomatic treatment and observation are required. This medication is sensitive to light; it should be taken immediately after opening and stored in a place out of reach of children. This medication should be taken consistently even in the absence of asthma symptoms, and medical consultation should be sought if symptoms worsen or unusual symptoms arise.
