This medicine is used for the prevention and long-term treatment of asthma. It also helps relieve symptoms such as nasal congestion and sneezing due to seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It assists patients in maintaining respiratory health and effectively managing symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, and in the case of asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once a day. This medication should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should chew and take 5 mg of montelukast once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame and should not be used by patients with phenylketonuria, a genetic disorder. The intake of aspartame should be regulated within the recommended limits by WHO, ensuring that adults do not exceed 2.4 grams per day. Additionally, due to the presence of lactose in this medication, patients with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine. During the use of this medication, adverse reactions such as fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, indigestion, headache, nasal congestion, cough, and rash may occur, so if symptoms persist or worsen, consultation with a physician is necessary. Particularly in patients with asthma or allergic rhinitis, various adverse reactions have been reported, so caution is needed. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks; appropriate emergency medication should be used when symptoms are acute. Inhaled corticosteroid preparations should not be abruptly discontinued or replaced with this medication; they should be adjusted gradually under the guidance of a physician. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not take these medications concurrently with this medicine. While taking this medication, symptoms related to eosinophilia or vasculitis may occur, thus the physician should closely monitor the patient's condition. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only take this medication if necessary and should be cautious, as this medication may be secreted in breast milk. It can also be used in children and the elderly, but proper dosage and administration methods should be followed considering safety and efficacy based on age. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, general symptomatic treatment and clinical monitoring are required. This medication is light sensitive, so it should be opened just before use and taken immediately after preparation. It must be kept out of reach of children. If any neurological or psychiatric symptoms occur while taking this medication, notify the physician immediately and do not arbitrarily discontinue or reduce the dosage of other asthma treatments.
