Precautions

This medication has a slow onset of action and is not suitable for initial treatment of symptomatic patients. Symptomatic patients should use another medication initially. Patients with allergies to this medication or its components should not use it. Elderly patients, women who are pregnant or nursing, children, and patients with certain liver diseases should use this medication with caution. While taking this medication, side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches may occur, and changes may appear in liver function or blood test results, requiring regular monitoring. Liver function tests and urinalysis should be performed regularly, and the dosage should be adjusted as necessary. If pancreatic dysfunction is suspected, further testing should be conducted. This medication may lose its effectiveness when taken with certain chelating agents, hence a time interval of more than 1 hour is recommended. Taking it with food may delay absorption, so it is best taken more than 1 hour before meals or more than 2 hours after meals. Elderly patients may have reduced physiological function, so this medication should be used carefully. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant need to exercise caution while using this medication, as some reports indicate potential effects on newborns; consultation with a specialist is advised. Nursing mothers should avoid breastfeeding while on this medication, as it may lead to zinc deficiency in the infant. Safety in children or newborns has not been fully established, so caution is advised in their use. Overdosage may result in serious side effects such as severe vomiting, dizziness, kidney problems, and pancreatitis; if overdose is suspected, immediate medical attention is necessary.
