Precautions

This medication should not be taken by individuals allergic to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives or those with a history of hypersensitivity. Patients with severely impaired kidney function, particularly those with a creatinine clearance of less than 10 mL/min, should also avoid using this medication. It is advisable not to administer this medication to children under 6 years of age. While taking this medication, it is advised not to combine it with specific medications such as theophylline or ritonavir. Particularly, taking it with theophylline may slightly slow the body's elimination rate of this medication, while taking it with ritonavir may increase its blood concentration. Additionally, as with other antihistamines, taking this medication with alcohol can increase the risk of side effects; therefore, excessive drinking should be avoided. Individuals with kidney or liver issues or the elderly should consult with a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. Since this medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, individuals with reduced kidney function or the elderly may experience prolonged retention of the drug, increasing the risk of side effects. Patients with epilepsy or at risk of seizures should also consult with a professional before taking this medication. Those experiencing difficulty urinating or issues with urination due to conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia should exercise caution when taking this medication. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking this medication, as safety for the fetus has not been fully established. Nursing mothers should also exercise caution as this medication can be excreted in breast milk, potentially affecting their infants. Overdose of this medication may affect the central nervous system, leading to symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty urinating, and should prompt immediate consultation with medical personnel. Various side effects can occur during use, including drowsiness, headache, dyspepsia, skin rash, liver dysfunction, blood disorders, etc.; immediate consultation with a doctor is advised if any unusual symptoms arise. It is recommended to discontinue taking this medication 3-5 days prior to an allergy testing, as it may affect the results. Care should be taken not to exceed the dosage of this medication when driving or operating machinery, as combining it with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants can significantly impair concentration. This medication can be taken with food without major impact on its effectiveness, although food may slightly slow absorption. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and keeping it in its original container helps maintain its quality and safety.
