This medication helps to prevent asthma and provide ongoing treatment. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, with asthma patients advised to take it in the evening, and the dosing time for allergic rhinitis patients is determined based on the patient's condition. For patients who have both asthma and allergic rhinitis, one tablet should be taken in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 and over should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is broken down into phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, it should not be administered to patients with phenylketonuria who need to limit phenylalanine intake. The amount of aspartame is regulated to not exceed the WHO recommended levels, so care should be taken to avoid exceeding the recommended intake. Those allergic to this medication or its ingredients should not take it. Additionally, it contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should avoid taking it. This medication is not for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, and appropriate emergency medication should always be carried during asthma exacerbations. When used in conjunction with inhaled corticosteroids, the dosage should be adjusted according to a doctor's instructions, and sudden changes should be avoided. Neurological or psychiatric symptoms may occur during use, so immediate consultation with a physician is required if such changes occur. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication. Rarely, symptoms of systemic eosinophilia and vasculitis may occur, and if related symptoms arise, medical attention should be sought. No major interactions have been reported with this medication, even when combined with other drugs, but caution is needed when taken with certain enzyme inducers. During pregnancy, it should only be taken when necessary, and caution is required during breastfeeding. It is safe for use in children and the elderly, but dosage and administration should be adjusted according to age.
