Main use
Treatment of hypertension
Who takes it
Adults · Children
Adult dose
1. Adults The therapeutic dose of this medicine should be adjusted appropriately according to the patient's response and severity of symptoms. The initial dose is 2 mg of lacidipine once daily. Take it at the same time each day, preferably in the morning, with or without food. If a dose increase is needed, increase to 4 mg once daily after an appropriate period has elapsed to allow adequate assessment of the pharmacologic effect. Increase to 6 mg once daily only if blood pressure is not controlled with 4 mg once daily. Except in patients requiring more rapid titration, the period before deciding to increase the dose should be at least 3 ~ 4 weeks, the time required for this medicine to achieve its full pharmacologic effect. If an adequate response is not achieved, another antihypertensive agent may be added (a beta-blocker and/or a diuretic). 2. Patients with hepatic impairment Because this medicine is metabolized primarily in the liver, its bioavailability and blood pressure-lowering effect may be increased in patients with hepatic impairment. These patients should be monitored carefully, and a reduction in the initial dose is recommended. 3. Patients with renal impairment As this medicine is not excreted through the kidneys, dosage adjustment is not necessary in patients with renal impairment. 4. Elderly patients The initial dose is 2 mg once daily. If necessary, it may be increased to 4 mg once daily after 4 weeks.
Child dose
There is no experience with the use of this medicine in children.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Patients with allergies to this medication, its components, or similar medications should not take it. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not use this medication. Patients in states of cardiogenic shock or who have unstable angina may be at risk when using this medication. Patients with aortic stenosis should avoid this medication as it may reduce coronary blood flow. Patients who have experienced a heart attack or those within one month of such an event should also avoid this medication. Patients with left ventricular dysfunction and those currently receiving dantrolene should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not use it. This medication can cause mild side effects such as dizziness, headache, palpitations, and flushing in some patients, most of which are temporary. However, caution is needed as angina may worsen in patients with heart disease. Some patients may experience side effects such as abdominal discomfort, nausea, skin rash, and swelling. Since this medication lowers blood pressure, it may cause blood pressure to drop too low when used with other antihypertensive medications. Additionally, the concentration of this medication may change when combined with certain medications, so it should not be taken with other drugs without a doctor’s guidance. In particular, grapefruit juice may affect the efficacy of this medication, so it is advisable to avoid consuming it together. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and safety in pediatric patients has not been established. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication may worsen symptoms, so it should be gradually reduced according to a physician’s instructions. If dizziness occurs during treatment, it is safer to avoid driving or operating machinery. Overdosage of this medication may lead to excessively low blood pressure and abnormalities in heart rhythm. If an overdose is suspected, appropriate treatment should be sought immediately in a hospital. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and in its original container.
