Relief of allergic symptoms such as allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and chronic urticaria
This medication is used to treat allergic conditions such as seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and pruritus. It also helps alleviate symptoms when used in conjunction with hydrocortisone topical preparations for the treatment of eczema and dermatitis.
Adults and children aged 6 years and older should take cetirizine hydrochloride as an oral dose of 10 mg once daily before bedtime. Patients sensitive to side effects may take 5 mg divided into morning and evening doses. Adjust according to age and symptoms, and the dosing interval should be adjusted based on renal function for patients with renal impairment. Dosing amounts and frequencies differ based on the degree of renal function impairment (e.g., moderate renal impairment is 5 mg once daily, severe is every 2 days).
Children aged 6 years and older should take an oral dose of 10 mg once daily before bedtime, the same as adults. In children with kidney impairment, dosage should be adjusted individually based on renal clearance and body weight.
This medication should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to certain components or have previously experienced hypersensitivity to this or similar medications. It should not be used by patients with severely impaired renal function or children under 6 years of age. Additionally, individuals with genetic metabolic problems such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. It is important not to take this medication with certain drugs. For example, it should be avoided with theophylline or ritonavir as it may alter drug effectiveness or plasma concentration. Excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment. Patients with impaired renal or liver function, the elderly, those with epilepsy, or those at risk of seizures should consult their doctor before use. This medication may aggravate conditions that cause difficulty in urination, so caution is necessary for individuals with related disorders. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also exercise caution and consult a healthcare professional as it may affect the baby during nursing. If any unusual symptoms occur during treatment, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare provider. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty urinating may occur, so caution is advised. This medication can affect the liver and kidneys, hence regular monitoring is required, and it must be stopped immediately if any skin rash or allergic symptoms appear. Caution should be exercised while driving or operating machinery as drowsiness or decreased reaction may occur. It is recommended to discontinue this medication a few days before allergy testing, and while it can be taken with food, the absorption rate may be slightly slower.
