How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, with asthma patients taking it in the evening and allergy rhinitis patients determining the dosing time based on their condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 are to chew 5 mg of montelukast once daily. This medication should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication contains aspartame, an artificial sweetener, so patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should not take it. The daily intake of aspartame should not exceed the recommended amount by WHO, with special caution for adults weighing 60 kg, who should not exceed 2.4 grams per day. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or conditions such as lactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take it. While clinical trials have assessed safety in asthma and allergic rhinitis patients, side effects such as fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, headache, cough, and rash may occur. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a physician. Rarely, severe symptoms such as eosinophilia or vasculitis may occur during medication use; in such cases, immediately inform healthcare professionals if symptoms such as eosinophilia, vasculitis, or worsening lung symptoms develop. This medication is not for treating acute asthma attacks, so immediate emergency treatment should be sought for acute symptoms, and a rescue inhaler should always be carried. Patients with aspirin hypersensitivity should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during this medication. Pregnant or nursing women should only take it if clearly needed, and caution is necessary while breastfeeding. It can also be used in children and the elderly, but the safety and efficacy may vary by age, so follow the doctor's instructions. There is no specific antidote for overdose, so general treatment should be followed according to symptoms, under the direction of a physician. This medication is sensitive to light, so do not open until use, and take it immediately after opening, keeping it out of reach of children. If neuropsychiatric symptoms (nervousness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, etc.) occur during use, immediately consult a doctor and seek advice.
