Prevention of asthma and alleviation of allergic rhinitis symptoms
This medication helps prevent and continuously treat asthma. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
This medication should be taken once daily; in patients with asthma, it is taken in the evening. In patients with allergic rhinitis, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast once daily orally.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which metabolizes phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. The intake of aspartame should be controlled under the WHO recommended levels, and adults should be careful not to exceed a maximum of 2.4 grams per day. Patients who are allergic to any component of this medication, or those with lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or genetic lactase deficiency, should not take this medication. Various adverse reactions have been reported in patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis, including fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, rash, and cough; if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. Rarely, severe symptoms such as vasculitis and systemic eosinophilia may occur, so if eosinophilia, skin rash, or worsening of pulmonary symptoms occur, inform medical personnel immediately. This medication is not for use during acute asthma attacks; therefore, an emergency inhaler should always be ready, and it should be administered according to the doctor’s instructions without abruptly stopping steroid preparations. Patients hypersensitive to aspirin should avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs while using this medication, and those with exercise-induced asthma should not use this medication alone and should combine it with inhaled bronchodilators. Use during pregnancy should be carefully decided under the doctor's judgment if necessary, and breastfeeding women should be cautious as this medication may be excreted in breast milk. For children, safety and efficacy have been established from 6 months of age; however, its safety has not been established for infants under 6 months, so it is essential to consult a specialist before use. There is no specific antidote for overdose; general symptomatic treatment and clinical monitoring are required. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be opened just before taking it, and once prepared for taking, should be consumed immediately and stored out of reach of children.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, chest tightness, difficulty breathing, anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with fever, blisters, skin peeling, oral/ocular mucosal pain, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe skin reaction), shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attack, respiratory problems accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)

This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air, moisture, and light. It is best to maintain a storage temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Proper storage helps maintain the medication's efficacy and prevents degradation.
