This medication helps to prevent asthma attacks and provides ongoing treatment. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily, generally in the evening for asthma patients, and the administration time may be determined based on the patient's condition for allergic rhinitis patients. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, it is to be taken once daily, one tablet in the evening. This medication is administered one hour before meals or two hours after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 6 to 14 years should chew 5 mg of Montelukast once daily. This medication is administered one hour before meals or two hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. During treatment, psychiatric symptoms may occur; therefore, patients and guardians should immediately inform their physician if symptoms such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur. Additionally, this medication contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, which should be avoided by patients with phenylketonuria. Individuals with hypersensitivity to this medication should not take it. Common side effects may include fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash; if these symptoms are severe or persistent, consult a doctor. This medication is not for treating acute asthma attacks; separate emergency medications should be used for acute symptoms. Patients hypersensitive to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) should avoid using these medications while taking this drug. Pregnant or nursing women should use this medication with caution and after consulting with a physician. Children and the elderly can also take this, but appropriate dosage and caution are necessary depending on age. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, so seek medical attention immediately for appropriate treatment. This medication is sensitive to light; do not open until just before taking, and use as soon as possible after opening. Store out of reach of children and avoid transferring to other containers. Do not suddenly discontinue or adjust the dose of other asthma medications without consulting a doctor, and if asthma symptoms worsen, seek medical attention immediately.
