This medication helps to prevent asthma attacks and manage symptoms continuously. It is also used for relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is effective in reducing discomfort caused by asthma and allergic rhinitis and improving respiratory health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing schedule is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take one tablet in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents over 15 years old should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with phenylketonuria, as the artificial sweetener aspartame contained in this medication is broken down into phenylalanine in the body. Additionally, the daily intake of aspartame in this medication should be limited to less than the recommended levels by the World Health Organization, with particular caution for adults not exceeding 2.4g per day. Persons who are allergic to this medication or any of its components should not take it. This medication contains lactose; therefore, it should not be taken by patients with genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance, galactose intolerance, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. This medication is not intended for use during acute asthma attacks, and patients should always have emergency bronchodilators on hand to use during acute symptoms. Dosage reductions of inhaled corticosteroid preparations should be done gradually under medical supervision and should not be abruptly replaced with this medication. While taking this medication, it is advisable to avoid the use of aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, especially for patients with a history of aspirin sensitivity. Neuropsychiatric symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or memory disturbances may occur during treatment, and if such symptoms develop, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Special populations such as children, elderly patients, and pregnant women require additional safety considerations, and use during pregnancy should only occur when necessary. In case of overdose, there are no specific antidotes, so adequate treatment and monitoring are necessary according to the symptoms. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be taken immediately after opening during preparation, and it should be stored out of the reach of children.
