This medication helps to prevent the occurrence of asthma and provides continuous treatment. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is to be taken once daily, usually in the evening for asthma patients. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosage timing is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take once daily, one tablet in the evening. Adults and adolescents over 15 years of age should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to alleviate allergy or asthma symptoms. This medication should not be taken if you have a known allergy to this drug or any of its ingredients. Also, as it contains lactose, patients with a genetic disorder that affects the digestion of lactose should not be administered this drug. Various adverse reactions may occur during the use of this medication; in adults and adolescents, fatigue, headache, dyspepsia, cough, and rash have been reported. In pediatric patients, infection-related symptoms such as pharyngitis, fever, diarrhea, and otitis may occur more frequently. This medication is not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks. In case of acute symptoms, other emergency medications must be prepared. Patients using inhaled steroid preparations should not switch to this medication abruptly but should adjust it gradually under a doctor's guidance. Patients whose asthma symptoms worsen with exercise should not use this medication alone and should also use an inhaled bronchodilator. Patients allergic to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid these medications while taking this drug. Rarely, severe vasculitis symptoms related to eosinophilia may occur while using this medication. If skin rash or worsening respiratory symptoms occur, it is essential to inform a doctor immediately. There have been no significant interactions reported when using this drug with various other medications; however, caution is warranted when combined with drugs that induce certain liver metabolic enzymes. Pregnant women should only take this medication at the discretion of a physician when absolutely necessary, and caution should be exercised during breastfeeding as well. It is safe for use in pediatric patients, but safety and efficacy have not been established in infants under 6 months of age. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, general treatment and monitoring are required. Store this medication out of the reach of children and do not transfer it to another container. This medication should be taken consistently even when asthma symptoms are not present, and if symptoms worsen, consultation with a doctor is necessary. It is important to inform a doctor immediately if neurological or other abnormal symptoms occur during treatment.
