This medication is used to prevent and continuously treat asthma. It also helps to alleviate the symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is effective in reducing the discomfort caused by asthma and allergic rhinitis and improving respiratory health.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is taken once daily. For asthma patients, it should be taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined according to the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 1 tablet in the evening once daily. Adults and adolescents aged 15 years and older should take 10 mg of montelukast orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, which is converted to phenylalanine in the body, so patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. The daily intake of aspartame is limited based on weight, and it should not exceed 2.4g per day for adults. Patients who have allergic reactions to any components in this medication, or have genetic disorders such as lactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medication. This medication is not used during acute asthma attacks, and appropriate emergency medications should always be prepared during acute symptoms. Inhaled corticosteroids should not be abruptly discontinued or replaced with this medication and must be gradually adjusted under a doctor's guidance. Using this medication alone to treat exercise-induced bronchospasm is inappropriate, and inhaled beta agonists should be continued as needed. Patients with a hypersensitivity to aspirin should not take aspirin or NSAIDs while on this medication. In rare cases, patients with asthma may experience severe side effects such as systemic eosinophilia or vasculitis, and should seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur. This medication is used for asthma and allergic rhinitis patients of various ages, but safety and efficacy have not been established in children under 6 months old. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking this medication and it should be administered cautiously when necessary. There is no specific antidote for overdose, and general supportive care and clinical monitoring are required. This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be taken immediately after opening, and kept out of reach of children during storage. If any neuropsychiatric symptoms or adverse reactions occur during treatment, contact a doctor immediately, and do not arbitrarily reduce or discontinue other asthma treatments during use.
