This medication helps prevent and manage asthma effectively. It is also effective in alleviating the symptoms of allergic rhinitis that occur seasonally or persist throughout the year. Therefore, it is used for the improvement of asthma and allergic rhinitis symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily; for patients with asthma, it should be taken in the evening, and for patients with allergic rhinitis, the dosage time should be determined according to the patient's condition. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, the dosage is one tablet in the evening, once daily. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Child dose

For children aged 6 to 14 years, the dosage is 5 mg of Montelukast once daily, chewed. This medication should be administered 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals.

Precautions

This medication is used to prevent asthma and alleviate symptoms. During treatment with this drug, there may be psychiatric symptoms; thus, patients and guardians should inform their doctor immediately if there are changes such as agitation, anxiety, depression, hallucination, or suicidal thoughts. This medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, so patients with a genetic disease called phenylketonuria should not take it. Patients with genetic issues that prevent lactose breakdown should also avoid this medication. This drug is not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks; therefore, separate emergency medication should be used for acute symptoms. Patients who are hypersensitive to aspirin should not take aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs when taking this medication. This medication can be used by children to the elderly, but especially for pediatric patients, the appropriate dosage and safety must be confirmed according to their age. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; hence, symptomatic treatment should be obtained at a hospital if symptoms occur. Drug interactions are minimal, but when used with drugs that induce liver metabolism, doctor's observation is necessary. This medication should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary, and care should also be taken when breastfeeding. This medication should be taken regularly according to the prescribed method and dosage, and should not be stopped arbitrarily or reduce other asthma treatments. If psychiatric symptoms occur during use, please consult a physician immediately. Keep out of the reach of children and do not transfer to another container.
