Improvement of essential hypertension and heart failure, reduction of risk of mortality after myocardial infarction
This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension and heart failure. It can also be applied to heart failure patients intolerant to ACE inhibitors. It plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of mortality in patients with left ventricular dysfunction or impaired contractility after myocardial infarction. In other words, it effectively improves hypertension and cardiac function and enhances survival rates after myocardial infarction. Thus, it is generally beneficial in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and is used to improve patients' health.
1. Essential Hypertension Regardless of gender or race, an oral dose of 80 mg of valsartan once daily is recommended. For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased up to 160 mg daily, or a diuretic may be added. The maximum dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily. In elderly patients (75 years or older), treatment should start at 40 mg once daily. In patients with renal impairment with creatinine clearance of 10 to 20 mL/min,

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant, breastfeeding women, patients with severe liver impairment, severe kidney impairment, and those with a history of certain angioedema should not take this medication. Elderly individuals or patients with hyperkalemia, patients with weak liver function, and those with heart or kidney issues should exercise special caution when taking this medication, starting at a low dose while closely monitoring the condition. This medication has a strong effect in lowering blood pressure, which can lead to a sudden drop in blood pressure during initial dosing, resulting in dizziness or fainting; therefore, patients, especially those with a deficiency in fluid or sodium, should be cautious. Patients undergoing dialysis or those on strict sodium restrictions may also have a risk of hypotension when taking this medication, so the dose should be gradually increased while monitoring their condition. During the course of taking this medication, blood pressure, kidney function, and serum potassium levels should be regularly monitored; if any abnormalities arise, appropriate measures should be taken. Taking this medication with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or potassium-sparing agents can lead to interactions that could dangerously elevate serum potassium levels, so consultation with a physician is necessary. This medication may cause dizziness while driving or operating machinery; therefore, caution is needed. In case of overdose, severe hypotension, altered consciousness, shock, etc., may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought for proper treatment. Children and adolescents should avoid using this medication, as its safety and efficacy have not been established. The medication should be kept out of reach of children and not transferred to other containers for safety.
