Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial), chronic urticaria, etc.
This medication is effective in relieving symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and is used to improve symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Additionally, it alleviates symptoms in conjunction with hydrocortisone topical formulations for dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching. This effectively reduces the discomfort of patients by alleviating various allergy and skin disease symptoms.
Adults and children aged 6 and older: Take 1 tablet (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) once daily orally, regardless of meals. Adjust dosage according to age and symptoms. In patients with renal impairment, dosage should be adjusted based on renal function (creatinine clearance (CLCR)). Mild impairment (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 1 tablet once daily. This medication should not be used in patients who are hypersensitive to its ingredients or who have previously shown allergic reactions to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It should also not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Do not use this medication in infants under 1 year of age, and for children under 6 years old, a liquid formulation should be used instead of a tablet. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, as well as elderly patients, should use this medication cautiously since it may remain in the body for a longer duration. Drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and other central nervous system symptoms may occur with this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. It is preferable to avoid co-administration with alcohol or drugs that may affect the central nervous system, such as antidepressants. Patients with urinary excretion disorders should be careful, as their symptoms may worsen with this medication. Co-administration with other antihistamines and alcohol should be avoided, and potential interactions with specific drugs necessitate consulting with a doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised against taking this medication, as adequate safety studies have not been conducted. Children under 1 year should not use this medication, and the dosage for children under 12 years should be adjusted carefully. Elderly patients may experience prolonged medication retention due to decreased kidney function, so they should start with a low dose and monitor their condition. It is necessary to discontinue taking this medication a few days prior to allergy testing for accurate results. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or restlessness may occur, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment should be symptomatic. This medication is not effectively removed by dialysis, so care is needed in cases of overdose.
