This medication helps to relieve symptoms caused by seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis and mild chronic idiopathic urticaria. It also helps to alleviate the symptoms of dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching when used in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone. This usage effectively relieves the patient's uncomfortable symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children over 6 years: Take 1 tablet (5 mg of Levocetirizine Hydrochloride) orally once daily, regardless of meals. Dose adjustment should be made according to kidney function. Normal kidney function (≥90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily Moderate renal impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 1 tablet every other day Severe renal impairment (15 -< 30 mL/min): 1 tablet once every three days End-stage renal disease (< 15 mL/min): Requires dialysis. Contraindicated.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to specific ingredients or have hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. Patients with end-stage renal disease or undergoing hemodialysis should not take this medication. Infants under 1 year of age should not receive this medication, and for children under 6 years of age, it is safer to administer in liquid form rather than tablet form. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic disorders should not take this medication. Patients with kidney or liver function issues and the elderly should be cautious as the blood concentration of this medication may increase. Taking this medication may result in neurological side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue, so caution is required when driving or operating machinery. Additionally, there may be gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, so if abnormal symptoms persist, it is advisable to consult a physician. Concomitant use with alcohol or central nervous system depressants should be avoided as it may exacerbate drowsiness or decrease concentration. Patients at risk of urinary retention, such as those with spinal cord injury or prostate enlargement, should be cautious when taking this medication. Patients with epilepsy or at risk of seizures should be careful as symptoms may worsen after taking this medication. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking this medication as the safety for the fetus cannot be fully confirmed. Nursing mothers should also be cautious as this medication may be secreted in breast milk and could affect the baby. Elderly patients, who may have decreased kidney function, should start this medication at a lower dose and adjust it if adverse reactions occur. This medication should be discontinued before allergy testing as it may affect the test results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, restlessness, and agitation may appear, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment according to the symptoms should be provided. This medication is not removed by hemodialysis, so prompt medical treatment is needed in case of overdose.
