Relief of symptoms such as allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria
This medication alleviates the symptoms of allergic conditions like seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It also helps control symptoms in patients with chronic idiopathic urticaria. It is effective in relieving symptoms when used in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone for dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching. This medication helps to reduce the discomfort associated with allergy symptoms and skin conditions.
Adults and children aged 6 and over: administer 1 tablet orally (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) once daily, regardless of meals. Adjust dosage according to kidney function. - Normal kidney function (≥ 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Mild kidney impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Moderate kidney impairment (30 -< 60 mL/min): 1 tablet, twice daily
Children aged 6 and over: administer 1 tablet orally (5 mg of levocetirizine hydrochloride) once daily, regardless of meals.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions or hypersensitivity to specific ingredients. It is also not safe for patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing dialysis. This medication should not be administered to infants under 1 year of age, and it is recommended to use a liquid form instead of tablets for children under 6 years of age. Moreover, patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should avoid this medication because of the lactose content. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, as well as the elderly, should take care when using this medication due to potentially increased blood concentrations. This medication may cause central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, and dizziness, and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea and abdominal pain might be experienced. Rarely, it may lead to heart rhythm abnormalities, blood abnormalities, skin rash, or visual disturbances; it is crucial to consult a physician immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur. As drowsiness or fatigue may occur after administration, caution is advised when driving or operating machinery, and concomitant use with alcohol or central nervous system depressants should be avoided. This medication may affect urine excretion, so patients with issues in urine discharge should use it cautiously. Patients with epilepsy or those at risk of seizures should use this medication carefully to prevent exacerbation of their condition. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consider the potential impacts on the fetus or newborn and consult a physician before use. Since this medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys, elderly patients with reduced kidney function should start at a low dose and adjust based on their condition. It is advisable to temporarily discontinue this medication before allergy testing, as it may impact test results. In cases of overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness and agitation, and as there is no antidote, appropriate symptomatic treatment should be provided. This medication is not well removed by dialysis, so special care is required in case of overdose.
