This medication alleviates symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and improves discomfort caused by chronic idiopathic urticaria. It is also used in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone to enhance effectiveness for the treatment of dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching. It is utilized for various allergic and skin conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children aged 6 and older: 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5 mg) once daily, orally, regardless of meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on age and symptoms. Patients with renal impairment should adjust the dose according to kidney function (eGFR). - Normal kidney function (≥ 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Mild renal impairment (60 - < 90 mL/min): 1 tablet once daily - Moderate

Children aged 6 and older: 1 tablet (Levocetirizine Hydrochloride 5 mg) once daily, orally, regardless of meals.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies or hypersensitivity to specific ingredients. It is not safe for patients with end-stage kidney disease or those undergoing dialysis. This medication should not be used in infants under one year of age, and for children under six years, a liquid form should be administered instead of tablets. Patients with lactose intolerance or genetic lactose metabolism disorders should also avoid this medication. Caution is needed when used in patients with decreased kidney or liver function, as well as in the elderly, since the drug can remain in the body for a longer duration. Rarely, cardiovascular symptoms such as abnormal heart rhythm or increased blood pressure may occur. Additionally, there may be rare blood-related adverse reactions or allergic reactions, so if symptoms like skin rash or difficulty breathing occur, healthcare providers should be informed immediately. This medication can cause drowsiness; thus, it is advisable not to take it with alcohol or central nervous system depressants. Patients at risk for urinary obstruction and those with epilepsy should take special precautions. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication cautiously, and observation is necessary for infants to detect any abnormal symptoms. Dose adjustments may be needed for children and the elderly, especially in cases of decreased kidney function. It is recommended to temporarily stop this medication prior to allergy testing for accurate results.
