View approved original text

This medication is used to reduce the risk of death in patients with essential hypertension, heart failure intolerant to ACE inhibitors (especially NYHA classification classes II-IV), and clinically stable patients with left ventricular dysfunction or impaired contractility following a myocardial infarction. It effectively controls hypertension, improves symptoms in heart failure patients, and contributes to increased survival rates after myocardial infarction. Therefore, this medication plays a very important role in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

How to take

Adult dose

For essential hypertension It is recommended to take valsartan as an oral dose of 80 mg once daily, regardless of gender or ethnicity. In patients whose blood pressure is not well controlled, the dose may be increased up to 160 mg per day, or a diuretic may be combined. The maximum daily dose can be increased to 320 mg. For elderly patients (75 years and older), treatment should begin with an oral dose of 40 mg once daily. For heart failure An oral dose of 40 mg twice daily is recommended.

Child dose

Safety and efficacy have not been established in pediatric patients and adolescents under 18 years; use is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. This medication must not be used in patients with allergies to its ingredients, severe liver or kidney dysfunction, or women who are pregnant or nursing. Particular caution is needed for the elderly or patients with high serum potassium levels, liver dysfunction, and other specific health conditions when using this medication. During treatment, symptoms such as dizziness or a sudden drop in blood pressure may occur, so monitoring should be conducted closely, especially when first taking the medication. Patients with heart failure or those who have had a myocardial infarction should have their kidney function monitored periodically while taking this medication, and any combination with other antihypertensive agents should be followed as per a physician’s instructions. This medication can dangerously increase blood potassium levels when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements, so caution is advised. Taking this medication with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may decrease the antihypertensive effect and cause kidney function issues, so precautions are needed during concurrent use. This medication may cause dizziness during driving or operating machinery, so caution is required. In case of overdose, severe hypotension or decreased consciousness may occur, necessitating immediate contact with medical institutions for appropriate treatment. The safety and efficacy in children and adolescents have not been sufficiently established, so use in this age group is not recommended. When storing, keep it out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers for safety.
