This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps improve symptoms in heart failure (NYHA class II–IV) patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors. Additionally, it has the effect of reducing the risk of death in stable patients with left ventricular dysfunction after myocardial infarction. In summary, this medication is used for the treatment of hypertension, certain heart failure, and for reducing the risk of death after myocardial infarction.

How to take

Adult dose

1. Essential Hypertension Adults: Recommended initial dose is 80 mg orally once daily. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose may be increased up to 160 mg daily, with a maximum increase to 320 mg. Elderly (75 years and older): Start at 40 mg orally once daily. Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus if taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with an allergy to this medication or its components, pregnant women, breastfeeding women, or patients with severe liver or kidney impairment should not take this medication. Elderly patients or those with high potassium levels or liver impairment, patients with cardiac valve disease or cardiovascular disease, should use this medication with caution. Upon initial use, blood pressure may drop sharply; immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary if symptoms such as dizziness or fainting occur. Patients on hemodialysis or on strict salt restrictions, and those taking diuretics may have an increased risk of hypotension and should be particularly cautious. This medication can increase blood potassium levels when taken with other antihypertensives, certain diuretics, or potassium supplements, so it is important to consult a doctor. Occasional side effects such as headache, dizziness, cough, fatigue, and dyspepsia may occur, and consulting a specialist is advisable if abnormal symptoms persist. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery as dizziness may occur. If this medication is taken during pregnancy, tests may be necessary to check for kidney function and skull condition of the fetus. Safety and efficacy of this medication in children and adolescents have not been established; therefore, it is recommended not to administer it to individuals under 18 years of age. In case of overdose, serious hypotension and decreased consciousness may occur, requiring immediate medical attention, as there is no specific antidote and treatment should be symptomatic. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container.
