Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals with allergies to certain ingredients or with a history of hypersensitivity. It is safest not to administer this drug to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing hemodialysis. It should not be used in infants under 1 year of age and should only be administered in liquid form to children under 6 years of age. The liquid formulation contains maltitol, so patients with hereditary fructose intolerance should not take it. Patients with diminished kidney or liver function, and the elderly, should use this medication with caution as it can lead to increased blood concentrations of the drug. Taking this medication may cause CNS symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue, headache, and dizziness, so caution is required when performing tasks that require concentration, such as driving or operating machinery. Concurrent use with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may enhance drowsiness, so it is advisable to avoid them. Patients who have problems with urinary excretion or are at risk for urinary retention such as benign prostatic hyperplasia should be cautious when taking this medication. Patients with epilepsy or those at risk for seizures should be cautious as symptoms may worsen after taking this medication. The liquid formulation contains preservatives and sweeteners that may cause allergic reactions or affect health, so sensitive individuals should be careful. Pregnant women should consult a physician before taking this medication due to limited data on its effects on the fetus. Lactating women should also be cautious as this medication may be excreted in breast milk, which can lead to adverse reactions in infants. For children under 12 years of age, the dosage and safety may differ from adults and should be taken according to a physician's instructions; it is not for children under 1 year old. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentrations due to decreased kidney function, so they should start with a lower dosage and be closely monitored. If you are scheduled to undergo allergy testing (skin prick test), it is advisable not to take this medication 3-5 days before the test. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, agitation, and restlessness may occur, and since there is no specific antidote, treatment should be provided based on symptoms. Hemodialysis may not sufficiently remove this medication, so alternative treatment methods should be considered in case of overdose.
