Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial) and chronic urticaria
This medication helps alleviate the symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis and treat chronic idiopathic urticaria. Additionally, it is used for the relief of symptoms related to dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching. It is particularly suitable for adults and children over 6 years old and is effective when used in combination with hydrocortisone topical agents. Because it effectively improves these various symptoms, it is used to reduce discomfort for patients.
Adults and children over 6 years should take 5mg (10mL as a liquid) of Levocetirizine Hydrochloride orally once a day, regardless of meals. Adults with renal impairment should adjust the dosage based on kidney function (eGFR). eGFR of 90 or more and those between 60 and 90 should take 5mg once a day. eGFR of 30 to less than 60 should take 5mg twice a day. eGFR of 15 to less than 30
For children over 2 years and under 6 years, administer 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) once orally, twice a day. For children over 1 year and under 2 years, administer 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) once a day.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to specific ingredients or allergies to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is advisable not to administer this medication to patients with end-stage kidney disease or those undergoing hemodialysis. It should not be administered to infants under 1 year old, and it is preferable to give it as a liquid form to children under 6 years. The liquid form contains maltitol, so patients who cannot adequately metabolize fructose should not take it. Patients with kidney or liver dysfunction, as well as the elderly, should use this medication with caution due to the potential for increased blood concentration of the drug. During use, neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue may occur; thus, caution is necessary when driving or operating machinery. Gastrointestinal issues may lead to nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, and if symptoms are severe, consultation with a physician is required. Irregular heartbeat or blood pressure changes and hematological adverse reactions have also been reported rarely, so report any symptoms immediately. Allergic reactions such as rashes, itching, and swelling may occur, so if unusual symptoms arise, discontinue use and visit a hospital. This medicine can cause drowsiness or fatigue, so it should be avoided when taken with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants. Patients with urinary retention issues may have an increased risk of urinary retention when taking this medication, so caution is warranted. Patients with epilepsy or those at risk of seizures should use this medication carefully as their symptoms may worsen after taking it. Pregnant women should take this medication cautiously under medical supervision as limited data is available, and nursing mothers should also be careful as it may affect the baby. Children and the elderly may require dosage adjustments due to potential increases in drug concentration from reduced kidney function. It is recommended to discontinue this medication before allergy testing, as it can affect test results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or agitation may appear, and there is no specific antidote, so treatment should be based on symptoms.
